Changelog

Welcome, Errants! Make yourselves comfortable, for we have wonders to share!

As of v1.0, Errant Deeds is playtest complete! This isn't the final version of the game but it's what you might call "stable." All the rules needed to play a full campaign are now included in the doc. Here's some more detail:

  • New Layout!
    • The playtest kit has gotten a major facelift! That includes a hyperlinked Table of Contents and a hyperlinked "bookmark" graphic on almost every page, which will take you back to the ToC.
  • New digital keeper tool!
    • "Keeper" documents are single files (usually in Google Sheets) that collect all the rules references, playbooks, and other info needed to run a campaign. They're popular in the Gauntlet community and that popularity is spreading to the Forged in the Dark world too. Click this link to take a look at the keeper for Errant Deeds. You can find it hyperlinked on page 4 of the PDF too.
  • Action Roll v1.0
    • The action roll process has seen the most changes throughout previous versions. This latest version is the most streamlined one yet. We're still in a design phase where anything could be changed but we're keeping this action roll process for a while to give it a thorough playtest.
  • The Faction Game
    • For the first time, v1.0 gives us a peek at the faction and campaign mechanics for Errant Deeds! The mechanics themselves are likely to be tweaked after additional playtesting but the layout is new and exciting (see attached image), not just for Errant Deeds but for the broader Forged in the Dark world too. Go check out what we've got cooking!
  • Denvorn Province
    • We're working on almost 2 dozen factions and regions that cover a big part of the Blackwood, but for this release we're focusing on just one region: the crumbling backcountry of Denvorn Province. It's wracked by drought and noble corruption, and in need of some bold errants to help set things right!
  • Playtesting
    • That last sentence is where you come in. We're going to keep v1.0 as the most current version of Errant Deeds for a while (probably into Spring 2021) so we can get plenty of playtests for all its moving parts. Eli is going to be recruiting for playtests periodically but we want outside playtests too. If you'd like to run Errant Deeds for your group, please let us know! We've got some resources and ideas for how to make sure it's a good experience.

That's all for now, folks! Things have been wild out in the world and our priorities have been mostly about real-world activism and support. This version of the game came out a couple months later than we wanted but there are realms to save out there. We hope you're out there walking your own Way's Margin and helping the people around you.

Until next time... go forth, into story and song!
